Notably, analysts say the loading up has continued after the ETH price fell below the realized value of accumulation addresses.

This scenario also played out in April 2025, when the Ethereum price plunged to lows of $1,470 amid a broader market correction.

However, bulls quickly recovered as whales bought the dip, and the altcoin’s price went on to touch its all-time high near $5,000 in August 2025.

Recent data shows exchange balances have fallen to multi-year lows, with whales adding to their holdings as retail sells amid broader market panic.

This pattern persists as prices falter in early 2026.

With whales’ buying power intact, current levels are attractive, which has seen entities like Bitmine Immersion Technologies fully take advantage.

The company recently added over 40,600 ETH and currently holds over 4.3 million Ether tokens acquired at an average price of $2,125.

Of this, it has staked over 2.97 million ETH, which accounts for more than 68% of its holdings.

Ethereum price prediction

The crypto fear and greed index hovers in extreme fear territory, which means a short-term bearish outlook.

Ethereum has tapped this sentiment as bulls struggle near $2,000, with the altcoin’s current dollar value more than 60% down since touching the all-time high near $5,000.

On the technical front, prices are below key exponential moving averages (EMAs), and oscillators favour bears.

Ethereum charts formed a death cross in November.

This strengthened on February 5, 2026, when Bitcoin nosedived to $60k, and ETH plummeted past support at $2k to hit new lows near $1,740.

Despite a rebound to above $2k, downward pressure remains, and a pullback to that year-to-date low is possible.

If bears take further control, ETH could target $1,500-$1,300 next.

However, aggressive buying even as ETH falls below realized prices of accumulation addresses indicates a long-term conviction.

Analysts forecast a significant rebound, with institutional demand and network growth driving the next leg up.

On-chain metrics, including ETF inflows, will be key.

Notably, outflows have shrunk since the $1.4 billion in monthly flows exited Ethereum spot ETFs in November 2025, and the current total net assets sit at over $11.7 billion.

Ethereum (ETH) price showed broader weakness as it fell to the $3,000 level on Monday, with this coming amid further corporate accumulation.

As Bitcoin’s dip below $88k reflects broader market weakness, the key question is whether Ethereum bulls can ride the confidence in the top altcoin’s long-term potential.

BitMine Immersion Technologies’ huge purchases of ETH point to this outlook.

BitMine buys another 102,259 ETH

BitMine Immersion Technologies has further expanded its dominant Ethereum position.

On December 15, 2025, the publicly-traded company announced the acquisition of an additional 102,259 ETH over the past week.

This purchase brings the company’s total holdings to 3,967,210 ETH, valued at approximately $12.2 billion at current prices.

Notably, the latest addition continues a pattern of consistent accumulation during periods of price stabilization.

Previously, on December 8, BitMine reported holdings exceeding 3.86 million ETH, implying the prior week’s purchase of around 138,452 tokens.

Earlier, in the week leading to December 1, the company added 96,798 ETH, pushing holdings to 3.73 million at that time.

The MicroStrategy of Ethereum

BitMine’s approach draws clear parallels to the pioneering Bitcoin treasury model popularised by Michael Saylor at Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy).

Like Strategy for BTC, Bitmine has amassed the world’s largest corporate Ethereum holdings.

BitMine’s total crypto, cash, and investment holdings now stand at $13.3 billion.

It includes $1 billion in unencumbered cash, a small Bitcoin position of 193 BTC, and a $38 million stake in Eightco Holdings.

The company operates mining facilities in low-cost energy regions such as Texas and Trinidad.

However, it has pivoted strongly toward long-term ETH accumulation, with this funded through capital raises and operational efficiency.

Thomas “Tom” Lee of Fundstrat, Chairman of BitMine, said:

2025 saw many positive developments in digital assets, including positive legislation passed by the US Congress and favorable regulations, and strengthened support from Wall Street. These strengthen our conviction that the best days for crypto are ahead and why we continue to accumulate ETH towards our ‘alchemy of 5%’ target.

Can ETH bulls hold $3,000 level?

BitMine’s strategic buys have been executed amid Ethereum’s price resilience, with robust support established near the $3,000 psychological level.

In the past 24 hours, the ETH price has hovered in the $3,175 and $3,034 range.

If prices dip below the $3k mark, ETH is likely to retest the $2,720 lows seen on Dec.1.

Analysts however note that ETH has shown resilience and a decent bounce above $3,100 could pave the way for a retest of higher resistance around $3,500. Network enhancements, easing monetary policy and corporate buys are likely bullish catalysts.

However, just like $90k is now a key resistance level for Bitcoin, the $3,200-$3,300 is key to ETH.

A similar outlook prevails across the rest of the crypto market, with a few coins experiencing double-digit losses over the past 24 hours.

Why is the crypto market down today?

The cryptocurrency market’s downturn on October 17 stems primarily from escalating US-China trade frictions.

In the past few days, events around the two trading partners have injected significant uncertainty into global risk assets.

President Donald Trump’s renewed threats of 100% tariffs on Chinese technology exports reverberated through financial corridors.

It prompted a broad sell-off that began on October 10 and persists today.

This policy escalation, aimed at curbing China’s dominance in rare earth minerals and semiconductors, has amplified fears of retaliatory measures, inflationary pressures, and supply chain disruption.

Together, these factors have disproportionately impacted high-volatility sectors like crypto.

Adding to the macro headwinds, on top of the market witnessing over $19 billion in liquidations across leveraged positions last Friday, is the continued profit taking.

Low liquidity during Asian trading hours today has exacerbated the rot.

Institutional sentiment souring as US spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs record significant net outflows adds to the weakness.

Analysts note that while the Federal Reserve’s anticipated rate cut at the October 28-29 FOMC meeting could provide a counterbalance, short-term volatility remains elevated due to the absence of positive catalysts.

Crypto ETF hype around major altcoins has also cooled.

Overall, the total crypto market capitalisation has contracted by 4.6% to $3.58 trillion.

Nearly all of the top 100 coins are in the red as risk-off sentiment spills over from equities.

Meanwhile, Coinglass data shows that over $1.01 billion has been wiped off the market in terms of 24-hour liquidations.

Bitcoin struggles below $106k

Bitcoin, the bellwether of the crypto ecosystem, has mounted a fierce but futile defence against gravity.

After a brief rebound to above $115k, BTC has dropped to under $106,000.

Bears reached lows of $105,918 in early trades on Friday, and despite bulls’ efforts, the benchmark digital asset is trading at $105,906 at the time of writing.

Bitcoin is thus firmly below the psychological mark of $110,000.

The US-China rhetoric and other factors risk pushing BTC lower. Immediate support is likely in the $103,000-$100,000 zone.

Ethereum, XRP, and SOL dip below key levels

As Bitcoin struggles below $110k, Ethereum has fared no better.

The top altcoin has plummeted 3.5% to $3,780 in the past 24 hours.

That means the Ethereum price is well below the $4,000 support level.

This dip has cascaded across the broader altcoin market.

Weakness in ETH also reflects in Solana, XRP and BNB among other altcoins.

XRP’s price hovers below the critical $3.00 mark as sellers push bulls to lows of $2.24.

Meanwhile,  Solana has cratered to below $200 to trade around $178 as bears target further strengthening.

As the market grapples with the downturn, BNB has retreated to near $1,000, and Dogecoin has slipped 9% to $0.17.

Ethereum (ETH) price has experienced significant volatility in the past week, with its value extending its decline in the past 24 hours as bears pushed the token to lows of $3,830.

Having traded above $4,760 earlier this month, the near 9% dip in the past 24 hours and 16% dive in the past week have ETH hovering at a key level.

Broader weakness that also has Bitcoin near $108,000 and top altcoins struggling could align with a technical breakdown to see Ethereum’s price plunge to lows of $3,500 in the short term.

Ethereum price dives nearly 9% as key indicator signals breakdown

The latest dump for cryptocurrencies has Ethereum’s price hovering below $3,850 as of writing.

While bulls could reclaim the area above $3,860 and eye $4,000, analysts are pointing to a critical breakdown in the On-Balance Volume indicator as a potential signal for further losses.

As crypto analyst IncomeSharks highlighted on X, the ETH price is down amid a breakdown of the OBV momentum.

The indicator, which measures cumulative volume flow, showed a clear divergence from price action, and IncomeSharks says that while it retains the horizontal support, it is signalling weakness as buying pressure wanes.

Per the analyst, the loss of momentum suggests a bearish outlook.

The RSI remains above 55, suggesting room for bulls to navigate the downside pressure.

Notably, the daily RSI puts Ethereum in oversold territory, which might mean bear exhaustion.

Top altcoins fall to critical support levels

The downturn in Ethereum’s price is not an isolated event, as several top altcoins have also breached critical support levels.

As noted, this comes amid a broader market correction that aligns with the wobbly action seen on Wall Street over the past two days.

With BTC dropping to near $108,000 and Ethereum slipping to intraday lows near $3,800, top alts XRP, Solana (SOL), and Binance Coin (BNB) followed suit.

XRP was down 6% to $2.78 amid a downtrend line breakdown, while Solana, after a brief rally in recent days, has corrected to dip below $200.

A 7% drop in the past 24 hours saw SOL price hover near $197.
