The investment in OKX adds to ICE’s growing portfolio of digital asset initiatives as the company expands its strategy around blockchain and tokenized markets.

Earlier, ICE made a $2 billion investment in Polymarket at a $9 billion valuation and has also developed its own blockchain-based trading infrastructure.

​OKB price outlook

OKB’s explosive rally reflects market enthusiasm for OKX’s enhanced legitimacy and growth potential.

The token’s daily trading volume surged by more than 1,600% to over $421 million as prices rose past $100.

The token’s price movement after the announcement helped bulls hit intraday highs last seen in December 2025.

As OKX’s utility token, OKB benefits from platform fees, staking rewards, and now tokenized TradFi products.

These avenues, likely to see further adoption impetus among institutional investors, could help bulls.

However, as the chart above shows, profit-taking has already pushed OKB to the key $100 level.

OKB token remains under pressure despite OKX crypto exchange unveiling an upgrade to its OnchainOS infrastructure that introduces an AI toolkit built for developers.

The new system is designed to help autonomous agents interact directly with blockchain networks.

This will allow developers to plug AI models into wallet functions, trading routes, and market data feeds without building everything from scratch.

While the move aims at making OKX the backend layer for AI-driven crypto execution, the excitement around the product has not translated into a clear recovery for its native token, OKB.

At press time, the OKB token was trading at around $75.88, after a modest 24-hour decline of 0.3%.

Even though the altcoin remains far above its early-cycle lows, it has fallen more than 60% over the past year and its all-time high of $255.50, reached in August 2025, still looms large above the current price.

Technical analysis shows OKB in consolidation

From a technical standpoint, OKB is trading in a narrow range, although it appears to closely mirror Bitcoin’s price movements, which means broader market sentiment remains a critical factor.

The Relative Strength Index (RSI), though having bounced from an oversold condition, is still sitting close to the oversold region at 39.74 at press time.

In case of a bullish breakout, the immediate resistance sits near the 7-day simple moving average at $76.657.

On the downside, the 61.8% Fibonacci retracement level at $73.31 has served as key support, with a second support zone near $72.62 based on recent price action.

These two levels create a support band that traders should closely watch if the market breaks down from the current consolidation.

If that support band fails, historical data points to $68.05 as the next area where buyers previously stepped in.

OKB token price prediction

While the AI toolkit gives OKX a compelling long-term story, OKB’s price action suggests traders want proof of impact before bidding the token higher.

The near-term price outlook for OKB remains neutral unless a decisive breakout occurs.

A strong move above $76.77, supported by higher trading volume, would be the first signal of short-term strength.

If buyers push the price above the $82.47 resistance, momentum could expand.

Historically, sustained trading above $82.47 has paved the way for $93.50, according to CoinLore.

Beyond that level, the next resistance to monitor would be $104.84.

Coinbase is entering 2026 with a platform that looks increasingly different from a traditional crypto exchange.

The company is placing greater emphasis on stablecoins, its Ethereum layer-2 network Base, and a wider range of trading products that stretch well beyond digital tokens.

The shift reflects how crypto platforms are adapting as growth in spot trading cools and competition intensifies.

Rather than positioning itself only as a gateway to cryptocurrencies, Coinbase is aligning its business around broader financial access, with trading, payments, and onchain activity increasingly converging inside a single ecosystem.

Platform strategy shift

In a New Year’s post, Brian Armstrong reiterated Coinbase’s ambition to build what it calls an “everything exchange.”

The strategy focuses on expanding product lines so users can trade and interact with multiple asset classes from one interface.

That direction was formalised at the company’s year-end conference in December, where Coinbase rolled out stock trading and prediction markets.

Pig-butchering scams, once seen as consumer-level fraud, have quietly evolved into a global web of organised crime.

With links to human trafficking, cryptocurrency abuse, and international money laundering, authorities are now viewing these scams as matters of national security.

In a recent Chainalysis podcast, Andrew Fierman, the firm’s head of national security intelligence, and Erin West, a former prosecutor and founder of Operation Shamrock, discussed the evolution of pig-butchering scams.

They painted a chilling picture of how the fraud has transformed from digital deceit to a full-blown transnational crime model.

The scam involves creating trust-based relationships with victims over time, sometimes romantic, sometimes platonic, before luring them into bogus cryptocurrency investments.

Funds are then siphoned through fake platforms and disappear into an opaque crypto network.

Southeast Asian compounds and forced scam labour

Pig-butchering operations are no longer run by isolated hackers. Fierman and West explained that many are now backed by sprawling fraud rings operating across Southeast Asia.

These rings run dormitory-style compounds where trafficked workers, often victims themselves, are forced to operate scam networks.

In 2023, the US Department of Justice (DOJ) seized around $112,000,000 in crypto tied to such schemes.

However, according to Chainalysis, the problem has grown rapidly.

Scam-related revenue in the crypto space exceeded $9.9 billion in 2024, with pig-butchering scams alone increasing by nearly 40% compared to the previous year.

Victims often suffer more than once. After being drained of their initial funds, many receive follow-up messages from fraudulent recovery companies offering to “help” retrieve their lost assets.

These secondary scams use the same tactics, often targeting victims again by using lists sold among fraud rings.

Using blockchain visibility to fight back

While pig-butchering relies on exploiting emotions and trust, the infrastructure often moves through traceable digital rails.

Fierman suggested that this is where blockchain transparency can be turned against the scammers.

By tracking wallet flows and transactions on-chain, regulators, exchanges, and virtual asset service providers (VASPs) can intervene.

This is particularly possible at the point of cashing out, which remains the critical vulnerability for these operations.

Efforts are being made to freeze and reclaim these funds.

In August, a joint action by APAC law enforcement agencies and firms like Chainalysis, OKX, Binance, and Tether resulted in freezing $47,000,000 tied to pig-butchering schemes.

DOJ leads with new task force

The US is treating the matter seriously.

On 12 November, the DOJ announced the launch of a new “Scam Center Strike Force”.

This unit will specifically target transnational crime syndicates linked to Southeast Asia that have engineered these elaborate crypto investment frauds.

The strategy goes beyond arrests.

It involves targeting facilitators of the scam economy, including those offering payment solutions, managing the digital platforms, and providing banking rails.

This approach includes sanctions, indictments, and diplomatic efforts designed to pressure bad actors across borders.

Erin West stated the need to use all available legal and technical tools in this battle.

Disruption at scale, especially across the entry and exit points of crypto fraud, remains the immediate priority for law enforcement.

Common tactics and growing digital risks

The core mechanics of pig-butchering have not changed, even as the scale and coordination have grown.

Scammers still initiate contact over messaging platforms, using charm and emotional manipulation to build trust.

Fast declarations of love, secrecy about personal details, and the push toward investing in a “guaranteed” crypto platform are major warning signs.

These scams often include screenshots showing fake profits to pressure victims into depositing funds.

Once in, victims are encouraged to invest more before being ultimately locked out of the system.

Now, however, these scams sit within a broader framework of crime that merges human exploitation and financial laundering.

Victims are no longer just people who lose their savings.

They are also unknowingly interacting with a global machinery that fuels trafficking and cross-border criminal finance.

Meanwhile, OKB is one of the standout performers in the past 24 hours and week, outpacing top altcoins as recent bullish catalysts keep bulls in control.

Why OKB surged 50% as it hit a new all-time high

As top altcoins braced for a fresh dose of downside volatility, OKB extended its recent rally to a new ATH.

Having gone vertical from lows of $46 to highs of $116 on Aug. 13, the token retested the $92 area.

But bulls have traded higher since, breaking above $150 and hitting the intraday record high of $195 on Aug. 21.

The buying pressure follows a strategic tokenomics overhaul that OKX undertook recently, with this significantly altering the OKB’s supply dynamics.

On Aug. 13, OKX executed a massive one-time burn of 65.26 million OKB tokens, slashing the circulating supply by over 50% to a fixed cap of 21 million tokens.

The move meant OKX aligned its token’s supply with Bitcoin’s hard cap, with the deflationary event a key catalyst to the parabolic price action.

The supply change has seen OKB’s market cap surge to $4 billion, while the price has increased nearly 90% in the past week and over 290% in the past 30 days.

As well as the token burn, OKX introduced an upgrade to its zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine (zkEVM) network built with Polygon technology.

The upgrade boosted the network’s transaction capacity to 5,000 transactions per second while slashing gas fees to near-zero levels, enhancing OKB’s utility as the native gas token.

OKB’s price trajectory has pushed key technical metrics to extreme levels, with the Relative Strength Index (RSI) hitting overbought conditions.

Per the daily chart, OKB’s price hovers at a level where the RSI is above 92 and signaling a potential reversal.

However, the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) remains strongly bullish, with the MACD line above the signal line.

This and the histogram’s outlook suggest sustained buying pressure.

OKX has announced a one‑time burn of 65,256,712.097 OKB pulled from historical buybacks and reserves.

Subsequently, the exchange will fix the total OKB supply at 21 million after a smart‑contract upgrade that removes minting and manual burn functions.

Moreover, the move mirrors a Bitcoin‑like scarcity model and signals a long‑term commitment to value stability.

Therefore, the burn aims to create durable deflationary pressure rather than a temporary squeeze.

OKB token reacted with a whipsaw rally

Following the announcement, OKB spiked roughly 170% within an hour, jumping from about $47 to the $124–$126 area.

Soon after, the token printed a fresh intraday high near $135.32 before easing, and it most recently traded around $116.84.

Meanwhile, 24‑hour performance showed gains above 150% by several measures, with turnover surging to roughly $1.83 billion.

As trading intensified, market capitalisation hovered near $6.99 billion, underscoring how quickly sentiment shifted.

Reconciling supply metrics

As of today’s snapshot, third‑party trackers like Coingecko show an “actively traded” circulating figure near 60 million within a legacy total supply of 235,957,685 and a max of 300,000,000.

However, OKX says the post‑burn architecture will permanently cap total supply at 21 million.

Accordingly, OKT token trading will be halted on August 13, 2025 (14:10, UTC+8), with automatic conversions to OKB tokens set for August 15 using an average closing‑price window from July 13 to August 12, 2025.

Meanwhile, OKTChain will remain operational until January 1, 2026, so users can continue depositing OKT for conversion during the wind‑down. Consequently, liquidity and user activity will shift in stages rather than all at once.

OKB price outlook

In the near term, the burn created a textbook supply shock that amplified price discovery.

However, sustained gains will depend on execution across X Layer, depth of integrations, and developer traction.

Crypto exchanges Crypto.com and OKX are the latest platforms to receive full licenses under the EU’s Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) regulation.

Both exchanges announced the news in separate posts published on January 27, 2025.

In a blog post, Erald Ghoos, Europe CEO of OKX, said securing the MiCA license was a “major milestone for OKX, a win for crypto in Europe, and a testament to the growth and mass adoption of the industry at scale.”

Ghoos continued by saying the platform can provide its crypto products and services to more than 400 million people across Europe through its crypto hub in Malta.

“In the coming days, OKX will begin passporting its MiCA license from its Malta hub to all 30 EEA member states,” Ghoos said.

Passporting is part of the MiCA regulation that enables licensed and registered businesses to offer their services in another EU country under a unified regulatory framework.

The news of OKX receiving a full license follows its announcement that it gained pre-authorization as a Virtual Financial Assets (VFA) exchange under the European Union’s MiCA regulation.

Fully supportive of MiCA

Earlier this month, Crypto.com revealed that it had received an in-principle MiCA license.

At the time, Eric Anziani, president and COO of Crypto.com, said: “We have always been fully supportive of MiCA and strongly believe it will bring clarity, transparency, and establish a more streamlined sentiment towards the regulation of our industry across the EU, all of which adds to the growing confidence in the crypto sector.”

Bitpanda also received a full MiCA license from German regulator BaFin today.

Bitpanda, Crypto.com, and OKX join the likes of Boerse Stuttgart Digital, Circle, Coinbase, and MoonPay are some of the crypto companies to have successfully secured MiCA approval ahead of the regulatory rollout of MiCA in the EU.

The comprehensive crypto rules came into full effect on December 30, 2024.
