BNB is slightly up as a group of former crypto hedge fund executives look to shake up the cryptocurrency market with a $100 million fundraising plan to invest in Binance’s BNB token.

Reports are that the hedge fund execs are eyeing the initiative via a publicly listed company.

This move, inspired by Michael Saylor’s Bitcoin treasury strategy, signals growing institutional interest in BNB, which boasts an $87 billion market cap.

Hedge Fund executives seek $100m for BNB treasury

According to a Bloomberg report, former Coral Capital Holdings executives Patrick Horsman, Joshua Kruger, and Johnathan Pasch are in advanced talks to raise $100 million for a Nasdaq-listed company they control.

The trio plans to rename the entity Build & Build Corporation and begin accumulating BNB tokens this month.

This strategy mirrors the crypto treasury trend pioneered by Saylor’s Strategy, which has built a $60 billion Bitcoin reserve since 2020.

Per the Bloomberg report, the BNB treasury play would position Build & Build as the first public company to hold BNB as its primary treasury asset, offering investors exposure to Binance’s ecosystem through regulated markets.

A spokesperson for the team declined to comment on the fundraising efforts.

BNB’s “Microstrategy”

The initiative follows a wave of public firms diversifying into cryptocurrencies. While earlier adopters focused on Bitcoin, recent efforts target altcoins like Ethereum, Solana, and now BNB.

Binance founder and former CEO Changpeng Zhao commented on the development, noting in a post on X that a “BNB ‘microstrategy’” was taking shape.

Binance, the world’s largest crypto exchange, created BNB in 2017.

The token serving as a utility for trading-fee discounts and settling fees on the BNB Smart Chain, a blockchain popular for decentralized apps.

Despite Binance’s 2023 guilty plea to anti-money laundering violations and a $4.3 billion fine, BNB’s market resilience underscores its appeal to institutional investors.

On Build & Build Corporation’s plans, CZ noted:

“I heard about a few different companies doing this. So far, none are driven by me/us. But we are extremely supportive. BNB is a public blockchain native coin, not “linked” to Binance Holdings Ltd or Binance CEX.”

BNB price prediction

BNB’s price trajectory has been in a downturn since flipping negative from highs of $794 in December 2024.

Despite the dip that sees it hover around $622, the altcoin remains largely bullish amid institutional interest.

On the daily chart, key technical indicators suggest short term advantage for the bears.

The Relative Strength Index (RSI) hovers around 37, and is upsloping off the oversold territory zone.

However, the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) shows weakness for buyers after a recent bearish crossover, with the MACD line below the signal line.

Nonetheless, BNB is currently trading above the critical support area at $600. A break above $650 could see bulls target highs of $700.

On the flipside, support lies at $550.

Analysts attribute BNB’s strength to its utility within Binance’s ecosystem and the exchange’s recovery under a crypto-friendly U.S. regulatory environment, marked by the SEC’s decision to end its legal battle with Binance in May 2025.

The $100 million treasury play could further bolster demand, potentially driving BNB’s price higher.

However, investors should remain cautious of macroeconomic factors and regulatory shifts that could impact the broader crypto market.

Strategy, formerly MicroStrategy, has added more than $742 million worth of Bitcoin (BTC) to its holdings.

The publicly-traded company’s founder and executive chairman Michael Saylor announced on Monday, Feb. 10 that Strategy had acquired 7,633 bitcoin. Strategy spent approximately $742.4 million to buy the new BTC haul, with each coin scooped at the average purchase price of $97,255 per bitcoin.

Strategy resumes BTC purchases

After a slight pause in its buying spree and undertaking a brand overhaul, the company is back to its super bullish ways. The 7,633 BTC brings Strategy’s total bitcoin holdings as of February 9, 2025 to 478,740 BTC.

The world’s largest corporate holder of Bitcoin has spent about $31.1 billion to stack the flagship digital asset, acquiring these at the average price of $65,033 per BTC.

Strategy has raised funds from share offerings, with the target being billions of dollars. Despite its fourth-quarter results showing a net loss of $3.03 per share, the company has doubled down on its investment and strategy.

Bitcoin rose to an all-time high above $109k on January 20, 2025, this coming as the crypto market celebrated Donald Trump’s inauguration.

While the price has struggled since and hovered below $98k on Feb. 10, analysts are bullish. Saylor’s prediction isthat BTC could hit the $13 million mark by 2045. Other forecasts have short term projections of $200k in 2025.

NPS is South Korea’s largest public pension fund and the third-largest in the world with over $729 billion worth of assets.

Wu Blockchain shared the news via X:

South Korea’s National Pension Service (NPS) disclosed that it bought 245,000 shares of MicroStrategy in the second quarter of this year, worth about $33.75 million. Previously, NPS bought 282,700 shares of Coinbase in the third quarter of last year. NPS manages $729.77 billion…

Details filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission indicate the NPS acquired 245,500 of MicroStrategy shares at a total of $33.5 million. The filing relates to the fund’s investments in the quarter ending June 30, 2024.

According to news outlet Infomax, the National Pension Service’s investment in shares of the US-based MicroStrategy accounts for 0.04% of the fund’s total investment in US stocks.

Apart from MSTR, the fund also holds more than $51 million in Coinbase shares, $31.5 million in Roblox and over $61 million in shares of Block, Inc. The fund also holds shares of AI-chip powerhouse Nvidia, and tech giants Google and Microsoft.

MicroStrategy shares up 92% YTD

While the MicroStrategy stock has plummeted 20% as the crypto market struggles with choppy conditions. Despite falling from highs of $180 in mid-July to currently around $131, MSTR remains more than 92% up year-to-date.

MicroStrategy, as well as top crypto related companies such as Coinbase, are largely bullish amid growth and projections for Bitcoin. For Michael Saylor-led MicroStrategy, part of the success has come after adopting the strategy of adding BTC to its balance sheet.

MSTR has soared alongside Bitcoin since MicroStrategy first bought BTC in 2020, the latest surge coming amid Bitcoin’s push to reclaim $60k.

Saylor said in a recent post on X that MSTR has outperformed 499 of the 500 stocks in the S&P 500.

The company acquired an additional 12,222 BTC in Q2, 2024, adding more than $805 million in BTC to its haul. Currently, MicroStrategy holds 226,500 BTC worth over $13 billion.

Coinbase and MicroStrategy stocks have climbed more than 6% each on Aug. 8 (as of 2 pm ET), gains that come as the price of Bitcoin broke above $59,000.

The Coinbase (COIN) stock traded around $192.30 while MicroStrategy’s MSTR hovered near $134. 23.

Bitcoin’s surge sees it extend recent momentum since reclaiming support above $50,000. According to data on CoinGecko, the flagship cryptocurrency is up 7% in the past 24 hours. Losses over the past week have shrunk to about 5%.

Amid this, crypto analyst Ali Martinez says long-term holders have aggressively bought the recent dip.

Short term outlook

This positive movement for BTC comes as XRP led the crypto market higher after the latest court ruling in the Ripple vs. SEC case. XRP traded to above $0.63 to help Stellar (XLM) and other altcoins higher. Ethereum also breached the $2,600 mark.

However, XRP is poised at a key resistance zone and Ethereum may yet have to battle bearish pressure from potential selling.

“There is a potential cap on the topside in the near term with Jump Trading continuing its ETH liquidations (21,394 $wstETH ~$63.6M left) and Plus Token Ponzi 2 ETH wallets moving a total of 25,757 ETH ($63.1M) in the last 30 hours,” analysts at QCP Capital wrote.

The broader market is also still largely tinged with caution as analysts point to jitters around the global macro environment and geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. In this case, crypto could still see a retreat amid a choppy month or so.

Michale Saylor’s MicroStrategy is continuing with its Bitcoin strategy with another huge purchase of the flagship cryptocurrency.

MicroStrategy buys 3,000 more BTC

On Monday, the business intelligence company announced it had acquired an additional 3,000 Bitcoin (BTC) for $155 million. The company’s founder and Chairman Michael Saylor revealed the latest haul via his X account.

According to the announcement, MicroStrategy acquired the 3k BTC for an average price of $51,813 each. With this, the publicly listed company’s total Bitcoin holdings have increased to 193,000 BTC. The US-based firm has since its first purchase in 2020 accumulated bitcoin acquired for $6.09 billion.

In the grand scheme of things, MicroStrategy’s Bitcoin acquisition has been at an average price of $31,544.

MicroStrategy’s latest purchase came as BTC price retreated from the recent highs of $53,000. While some analysts say BTC could dip below $50k and likely bounce from the $48k support level, many remain extremely bullish.

On February 20, Saylor called BTC “the exit strategy” highlighting his company’s long term view.

The company bought $615 million worth of BTC in December 2023.

MicroStrategy, the world’s largest corporate holder of Bitcoin, has revealed it recently purchased more BTC. 

The business intelligence company, founded by Bitcoin bull Michael Saylor, also announced on Monday that it had repaid the loan to the failed crypto-friendly bank Silvergate Bank.

MicroStrategy repays $250 million loan, buys 6,455 BTC

Saylor, referencing his company’s latest SEC filing, said that MicroStrategy has now fully repaid the $205 million loan it borrowed from Silvergate in March 2022. The company reportedly cleared the loan principal with a 22% discount, with Friday’s payoff seeing MicroStrategy clear the collateralized loan at $160 million.

As a result, the company recouped its 34,619 BTC that had been pledged as collateral.

MicroStrategy also confirmed the purchase of 6,455 BTC, acquired for a total of $150 million and at an average $23,238 a coin. Saylor’s bitcoin strategy now includes a total Bitcoin haul of 138,955 BTC since the company’s first move in 2020. 

So far, the total BTC holdings have been acquired at a cost of $4.1 billion, with each bitcoin purchased at the average price of $29,817.

Bitcoin currently trades around $27,809 while MicroStrategy shares closed at $256.67 on Friday and were 0.07% down at 9.10 am ET ahead of US markets opening on Monday.
