The co-founder of Ethereum blockchain Vitalik Buterin confirmed that he is not on Instagram.
Vitalik Buterin is co-founder of the second biggest crypto asset Ethereum and at present, he is leading the crypto industry as a legend. Vitalik is also known as a Canadian programmer. With Charles Hoskinson, Gavin Wood, Anthony Di Lorio & Joseph Lubin, Vitalik launched the Ethereum project in 2014.
On 15 August, Vitalik took to Twitter to inform his followers that more than “Vitalik named” 5,000 accounts on Instagram are fake and none of them were/are backed by him.
“Regular reminder: all 5000+ of my Instagram accounts are fake profiles and have nothing to do with me. Anything you see “Vitalik Buterin” (or “Bütеirn” or whatever) posting on Instagram is a scam.”
A person responded to this warning of Ethereum co-founder against such fake “Vitalik Buterin” Instagram accounts and said that once he was scammed by one of these accounts, in which he lost more than $7k.
This is a bitter truth that Instagram doesn’t have any kind of account verification system, where we can verify the ownership of a particular account easily, whether genuine or not. Bad actors are taking advantage of such a technology gap, to facilitate easy scams.
The majority of the fake Instagram accounts of Vitalik have huge numbers of followers, even in millions. One of the fake account screenshot is attached below.
Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao also responded to this issue and noted that the Binance exchange is also facing such an issue.
According to Changpeng Zhao, there are only around 50 official Binance official employees on LinkedIn but more than 7,000 profiles on LinkedIn are running under the tagline of Binance employee.
