Reportedly the Nigerian authorities are in contact with Interpol and the Kenyan police to apprehend Nadeem Anjarwalla, one of the Binance executives, who fled from police custody.
As we already reported two months ago, Nigerian authorities detained two Binance executives, Nadeem Anjarwalla, regional head for Africa, and Tigran Gambaryan, head of financial crime compliance. Allegedly Binance helped illegal funding activities & also impacted the value of the country’s sovereign fiat currency Naira’s value. After arrest, the Nigerian authorities were not open to talk on this matter officially, as per legal proceedings of any jurisdiction.
Just a couple of weeks ago, some crypto advocacy groups collaborated to use legal powers to force the Nigerian authorities to handle the matter under the proper rules & laws.
Just a few days ago, Nadeem Anjarwalla somehow managed to escape from police custody, which further increased the conflict between Binance & Nigerian authorities to the worst level.
As per local media reports, the investigation agencies are very close to finding & detaining the Binance executive.
Reports confirmed that he used his Kenyan passport but it is unconfirmed how he managed to use his Kenyan passport.
Authorities are now investigating to understand how he managed, prompting authorities to investigate how he obtained other travel documents, despite being under custody.
Now to find this Binance executive, the Nigerian police are in full contact with Interpol & Kenyan authorities to trace & catch him.
On the other hand, Gambaryan’s case got postponed until April 19 because the tax authority, FIRS, asked for more time. They said they couldn’t contact or give documents to the Binance executive, who’s been with the EFCC since February 2024.
