MasterCard launches Crypto Credential P2P payment pilot program  2

With a new pilot program, MasterCard aimed to streamline peer-to-peer (P2P) transactions in the cryptocurrency space.

Mastercard is a well-known fintech company that connects people, businesses, and governments worldwide via payment services. Its technology makes transactions quick, easy, and secure. Mastercard handles billions of transactions each year with credit cards, debit cards, and digital wallets. The company aims to make financial services accessible, improve online shopping, and boost economies with its modern payment solutions and partnerships.

On 29 May 2024, MasterCard announced the launch of its Crypto Credential pilot program, which aims to streamline peer-to-peer (P2P) transactions in the cryptocurrency space.

With the help of this new program, the users of crypto exchanges can send and receive crypto using their Mastercard Crypto Credential aliases. People in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, France, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, and Uruguay can make transfers within their country and to other countries using different currencies and blockchains.

With this new P2P payment solution, MasterCard aimed to replace complicated wallet addresses with easy-to-use aliases, making blockchain transactions secure, transparent, and accessible.

It is worth it to note that MasterCard’s latest payment solution supports the exchange of Travel Rule information for cross-border transactions, which ensures compliance with regulatory requirements in the jurisdiction of multiple countries. So this new solution is designed to prohibit illegal and illicit crypto-linked payment activities easily.

It is worth it to note traditional financial players increased their inclination toward the crypto sector to a very big extent, over the past couple of years.

For example, the Popular digital payment banking platform PayPal launched the US dollar pegged stablecoin PYUSD in August 2023 on the Ethereum network & on the last day PayPal added support for the stablecoin on the Solana network also.
