Binance demands the U.S. government exert pressure on Nigeria to aid the jailed Binance executive

Binance CEO Richard Teng urged American government agencies to intervene in the Binance vs. Nigeria case and provide necessary medical relief to the Binance executive, who has been in jail for several months.

As we reported, the Nigerian government attacked multiple crypto exchanges, including Binance, over alleged tax evasion and manipulating the value of the country’s sovereign fiat currency, the Naira. On February 26 2024, Gambaryan was invited to Nigeria for meetings but was subsequently detained without access to family, attorneys, or the U.S. embassy. Since then, he has been in the custody of Nigerian authorities.

On August 27, 2024, Richard Teng, the CEO of Binance, issued a statement about Tigran Gambaryan, a former U.S. federal agent. Teng expressed concern over Gambaryan’s deteriorating physical and mental health due to a lack of medical care and access to legal counsel. Teng criticized the Nigerian government’s claims linking Gambaryan’s detention to Binance’s alleged impact on the country’s economy. He called for U.S. government intervention and global advocacy to secure Gambaryan’s release on humanitarian grounds.

Already, his medical condition was not good enough, and last month, his wife publicly talked about her husband’s medical condition. She said that his situation is very bad, and he needs medical treatment, but the Nigerian authorities are not supporting, which is totally against basic human rights.

Before that, a U.S. congressman had already urged the U.S. authorities to intervene in this matter to help a person get basic medical treatment, as a part of basic human rights that every person deserves.
