After being publicly shamed, Federation Internationale de Football Association (a.k.a. FIFA) finally kicked the Russian Federation out of its World Cup qualifying match with Poland.
“Following the initial decisions adopted by the FIFA Council and the UEFA Executive Committee, which envisaged the adoption of additional measures, FIFA and UEFA have today decided together that all Russian teams, whether national representative teams or club teams, shall be suspended from participation in both FIFA and UEFA competitions until further notice, ” FIFA said.
Originally, the soccer federation had come up with a bizarre meeting halfway scenario where the Russian team could still play but could not wear jerseys with its logo or hear its national anthem. That obviously didn’t satisfy the other 3 teams that could play in the world, all who were willing to lose their spot if it meant having to face Russia.

FIFA Fallout
FIFA and UEFA also announced that its ending its sponsorship deal Gazprom, the Russian energy company.
“UEFA has today decided to end its partnership with Gazprom across all competitions.
“The decision is effective immediately and covers all existing agreements including the UEFA Champions League, UEFA national team competitions and UEFA EURO 2024,” FIFA said.
Apparently the Russian soccer coach is really upset for his players. “I feel sorry for my boys,” said Russian coach Valery Karpin. “They were dreaming about playing at the World Cup. Now their hope is gone.”
